MOORE STEPHENS, UAE SEMINAR ON VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT)
On December 14, 2016, Moore Stephens, Dubai organized a seminar on Value Added Tax (VAT) at the Roda Al Bustan Hotel for some of its clients and associates. The objective of the seminar was to provide clients with the fundamentals, concepts and deeper understanding of the technical aspects of VAT, the implementation of which is currently underway across the GCC.

Tax authority of Iraqi Kurdistan discusses proposed tax reform
On 9 November 2016, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Tax Authority organized a focus group session to discuss the current tax system in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and address fundamental tax reform strategies. The session was led by the Director General of the KRG Tax Authority and attended by various taxpayer representatives in the KRI, including EY tax professionals based in Erbil.
2017 Finance Law: the industry sector takes pride of place
In the absence of a government that should have been formed after the elections of 7 October 2016, and pursuant to the provisions established by the law in such a situation, "a finance law" in small format was enacted by decree of the head of government.
REVISED CODE OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE – SULTANATE OF OMAN
The revised Code of Corporate Governance (‘Code’) issued by the Capital Market Authority was effective for Publicly Listed Companies with effect from July 2016. The revised code enhances the overall framework of the existing Code and urges the public companies to display greater standards of compliance to ensure investor protection. The Code is built on a 14 principle framework, with each principle detailing terms and requirements for compliance. As with the previous code, the revised code requires the external auditor to certify if the company is in material compliance with the requirements of the Code.
IFRS UPDATES AND AUDIT METHODOLOGIES - TRAINING FOR THE MOORE STEPHENS QATAR AUDIT STAFF
MS Qatar hosted a two-day training session on IFRSUpdates and Audit Methodologies last November 29 and 30, 2016 at Holiday Villa Doha. The training was conducted by Moore Stephens Dubai learning champions, headed by Mr. Magesh wanath Mani Rao (Partner –Assurance) and Mr. Shezad Farad Lakdawala. The session was attended by MS Qatar technical staff members and head of departments as well.
