About NIC

The Norrbotten's Islamic Center (NIC), is a non-profit charity registered under number (802433-3406) that was established in 2006 on the initiative of three volunteers, namely Mohamed Gabra, Baby Thein and Kabir Marefat. The Islamic Center in northern Sweden can be described as an Islamic religious-democratic organization, not to be affiliated with any political body. The center is located in the city of Luleå, where the organizational and administrative structure coordinates the work of its members and represents them in front of the authorities, organizations, and institutions inside and outside Sweden following the center's internal regulations. NIC includes also a group of Islamic societies scattered in northern Sweden.


Vision and Mission


Based on the statement of God Almighty "O people! We created you all from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another". The Islamic Center (NIC) plays a vital and holistic role in bringing the views of the spectrums of Islamic society together by creating a common language of dialogue without violating the right Islamic rules.

Geographical Location and Area

Praise be to Allah (God), with an effort that has lasted for more than ten years and through communications with political bodies, the Norrbotten Islamic Center was able to obtain permission to set up a mosque in Luleå city in Hertsön, a nearby area of the city center, thus the mosque will be one of the most important landmarks of the city. The area of land allocated for the construction of the mosque is approximately 9,000 square meters.
